Water and Habitat Engineer to the ICRC
Australian Red Cross supports the operations of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) through the recruitment and deployment of skilled humanitarian personnel into environments of armed conflict. It is the mandate of the ICRC to respond to the humanitarian needs of people made vulnerable by conflict.
We are seeking suitably skilled and experienced humanitarians to join our international aid worker register. We recruit to this register to enable a stand-by workforce to deploy in the event of a humanitarian crisis, sending Australian Red Cross aid workers to support the humanitarian operations of the ICRC where they are most needed.
The ICRC Water and Habitat (WatHab) Engineer is engaged to support beneficiaries living in contexts affected by conflict, to access safe water and shelter. While some WatHab engineers will have responsibility for supporting both water and shelter projects, most will lead on one of these technical disciplines. WatHab engineers are responsible for the planning, design and implementation of infrastructure projects for either temporary or long-term benefit.
All Water & Habitat Engineers need to be able to operate effectively in what can be a frenetic and ambiguous environment which is often remote and resource poor and within a multi-cultural team. Standard deployments are twelve months in duration.
To consider your suitability for working with the ICRC and as a Water and Habitat Engineer, please review the professional profile attached below.
Before you apply, please ensure that:
1 You have an awareness of the nature of work that the ICRC do and a willingness to live and work in locations that are affected by conflict; 2 You are available to deploy internationally for the durations outlined in the relevant position profile - in most cases this will be 12 months; and 3 You are willing to accept an assignment without your family (partner, children or other dependants), and also accept that it may not be possible for your family or friends to visit you while you are on assignment.
